Hi there,
On November 19, Grand Theft Auto VI launches… thirteen years after the last one dropped. This game will literally change EVERYTHING about how we view media, content and culture in general.
I’ve been thinking about what that actually means, not just the sales numbers (which will be record-breaking), but everything that happens around the game. The economy it creates. The culture it shapes. The opportunities most people won’t see coming until it’s too late.
These are my predictions.
THIS IS NOT A NORMAL PRODUCT LAUNCH
People have been waiting thirteen years for this game. That kind of anticipation doesn’t just affect sales… it affects behaviour.
Companies are already announcing launch-day operational pauses because too many employees plan to be unavailable. A U.S. Army unit offered soldiers four days off as a reenlistment incentive. That sounds absurd until you sit with how long people have actually been waiting.
At BDX, I’m genuinely considering making November 19 a team day off not as a gimmick, but as an acknowledgment of reality. If half the team is mentally in Vice City, the office will be less productive anyways. Most companies won’t make that decision consciously. They’ll just notice a mysterious wave of colds on November 19 and 20 and move on.
But the broader point is real: this launch will pull attention at a scale most brands and marketers are not accounting for. If you’re planning a major campaign, product announcement, or content push for that window, you should think carefully about what you’re walking into.
THE CREATOR OPPORTUNITY
I watched this play out during the World Cup. The creators who won during the tournament didn’t start posting on opening day. They spent the months before it building credibility, developing formats, and establishing audience habits. When interest exploded, people already knew where to go. Algorithms reward momentum. Audiences reward familiarity. Both take time to build.
If I were a full-time creator with any credible connection to gaming, cars, Miami, fashion, music, or internet culture, I would start building my GTA VI position today.
- Replay GTA V. Create a recurring series. Cover the history, the characters, the world. Compare Vice City with real Miami. Build formats that people recognize before the wave of attention arrives.
- A car creator can break down every vehicle and its real-world inspiration.
- A Miami or travel creator can build the real Vice City guide.
- Fashion creators can work with the visual codes without copying the costumes.
The common thread is the bridge, connecting GTA to an existing obsession in a way that feels genuine.
THE BRANDS WILL ARRIVE TOO LATE
The real opportunity starts now and the most interesting play isn’t digital. The brands I’m most excited to watch are the ones betting on real life.
Vice City is fictional. Miami isn’t. And GTA VI is about to encode a specific version of that city into global culture for an entirely new generation. That influence moves off the screen eventually, the question is who’s positioned to catch it:
- If I ran E11EVEN, I’d turn November 19 into “E11EVEN/19” a full launch-night takeover. Not a post. An actual experience people talk about the next day.
- Hotels and lifestyle brands can build real Vice City itineraries… the cars, the food, the neighbourhoods, something people can physically live.
- There’s a concept here between a pop-up and an immersive experience, like the old Supercandy Museum, where people step into the Miami they’ve spent 40 hours exploring on screen.
The brands that bridge the screen world with a real-world moment will own something no social budget can replicate.
There’s an important line here though. Rockstar’s characters, logos, and world are protected IP. That leaves two clean routes: secure an official partnership, or build something original enough to stand on its own. The lazy version is borrowing the aesthetic. The smart version is understanding why people care and creating something new around that emotion.
