Coachella and Stagecoach pump close to $600 million into the local economy every April. I’ve been on the ground for five of those years, embedded with artists and brands, watching how culture actually moves in real time.

Why it still matters (more than you think)
Coachella isn’t just a music festival.
Nowhere else do this many culturally influential artists, creators, and tastemakers end up in the same place at the same time. In 2024, Coachella hashtags generated 1.2 billion TikTok views and 500 million Instagram impressions in two weeks. Zero cold outreach.
For brands who know how to move in that environment, it’s a cheat code.
What most brands do wrong
They show up with a logo and a check. They buy the sponsorship, slap their name on a stage, and call it a brand moment. Then they wonder why nobody cared.
When I worked with BMW a couple years back, they did something different. And it’s the reason their Coachella activations became some of the most talked-about brand plays in the industry.
The BMW Playbook

- Official sponsor status: Meant they could actually use the Coachella name. Small detail, massive credibility unlock.
- Road to Coachella: They didn’t wait for the festival. They started the story early, road-tripping influencers through the California desert in BMW XMs and X5s.
- Hotel takeovers: Rented entire properties, threw unforgettable parties, put the right people in the right rooms.
- The real genius: They didn’t pay influencer rates. They traded access. VIP wristbands, artist-friend tickets, experiences money can’t normally buy and creators showed up grateful, not contracted.
That’s the shift. From transaction to invitation.
How to Run this Playbook in 2026

- Start before the festival (or any particular event), the content cycle kicks off weeks early. Get people talking about it, tell them plans and details and see how the audience can get involved early!
- Stop chasing reach. Chase rooms.
- An 80k creator embedded in the right circles beats a 2M influencer who showed up for the check.
- Trade access, not dollars.
- Artist meet and greets, off-schedule parties, rooms full of people they admire. You don’t need a contract. You need a group chat.
- And design every activation around one question: will someone want to film this?
3 things every brand can steal from this
- Trade cash for access. What can you offer that money can’t easily buy?
- Start before the event. The story begins on the road, not at the venue.
- Make them feel chosen. Invitation beats advertisement. Every time.
The Bottom Line
Coachella didn’t peak.
The desert is still full of the most influential people in culture. Five years of doing this has taught me one thing above everything else:
Culture doesn’t wait for you to get your strategy approved. It moves fast and it rewards the prepared.
This weekend will be full of moments most people will never see. The right conversations in the right rooms. The activations that will quietly become case studies. The creators who just had an experience they’ll be talking about for months.
